Despite economic uncertainty, the number of mergers and acquisitions in healthcare remained high in the previous year, largely thanks to financial investors, according to research by consultancy JBR.
JBR analysed all transactions approved and published by the NZa. After a decline in healthcare transactions in 2020 caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the number exceeded 175 per year in the following two years, above the long-term average of 167.
The balance between cure and care transactions remained broadly unchanged. As in the previous year, oral healthcare was the largest segment, followed by medical and specialist care.
